GUILFORD — A ceremony honoring Piscataquis County’s winners of the 2018 Spirit of America Foundation Tribute for outstanding community service was held at the Valley Grange in Guilford on Sept. 21.

Honored at the ceremony: Wayne Bennett has written articles and done so much more to help Abbot’s Historical Society and the town.

Atkinson Lady Quilters brings together the area‘s quilt enthusiasts in a spirit of fellowship and sharing.

William Manahan Jr. served several years as a Beaver Cove Selectman & oversaw maintenance of local roads.

Elaine Hartley of Bowerbank helped with Sunday school and played piano for the children’s choir at her church.

SPIRIT OF AMERICA WINNERS — A number of area residents and organizations were honored as county winners of the 2018 Spirit of America Foundation Tribute for outstanding community service. The presentation took place Sept. 21 at the Valley Grange in Guilford.

Kevin Black has served as Brownville’s operations director for 10-plus years and now is town fire chief.

Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft is very involved in its signature project, Kiwanis Park, and in much more.

Richard Gould taught school many years, was on the school board 10-plus years and a Greenville selectman 20 years.

Christina Pratley organizes Guilford’s annual Thanksgiving dinner, assists seniors, does so much more.

Lori Anthony is a visionary Medford selectman whose efforts helped secure a $30,000 grant to renovate Community Center.

Herbert Carey was a valued member of Milo Fire Dept for 50-plus years and a Mason for 50-plus years.

Monson Public Library Board of Trustees has been fundraising, expanding the library’s facilities.

Time Lab Summer Bible Club in Parkman offers music, drama, crafts, outdoor games, Bible stories to kids.

Jimmy Bell has helped Sangerville’s Rec Dept., Fire Department, school soard, bicentennial and budget committees.

Sebec Volunteer Fire Dept has spent countless hours preparing for/responding to fires over the years.

Darell Sawtelle is a well-respected Shirley historian who has done much to help the historical society and town.

Emaline McClintock devoted several years of her life to serving as Wellington’s town treasurer.

Gerald Packard has served as a Willimantic selectman, constable, school board member and gave land to the town.

County Commissioner Jim Annis, Emcee Walter Boomsma, Sen. Paul Davis, R-Sangerville, Keynote Speaker Tom Goulette, Reps. Norm Higgins, I-Dover-Foxcroft and Paul Stearns, R-Guilford and Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bob Young thanked those honored for their service.
