MILES OF MEMORIES HIKE -- Last July the Wilderness Walk for Warriors “Miles of Memories Hike” started in Monson as participants began the near 120-mile journey on the Appalachian Trail north to Mount Katahdin to honor fallen members of the armed forces and first-responders as well as raise funds to assist veterans and their families. Wilderness Walk for Warriors ‘Honor Rocks’ hike departs from Monson on Saturday

MOTORCYCLE ESCORT — The 2017 Wilderness Walk for Warriors “Miles of Memories Hike” participants traveled with a motorcycle escort over 60-plus miles from Bangor to Monson. From Monson the hikers walked nearly 120 miles to the summit of Mount Katahdin to honor fallen members of the military and emergency response services while also raising monies for related programs. The fifth annual support/escort motorcycle ride will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7 at Florida Avenue in Bangor near the Army Aviation Support Facility to travel north to the Monson Arts Center campus. This year will be a “Honor Rocks” hike as those taking part will carry “Maine Soldier KIA” memorial stones with hand-painted portraits.
