Piscataquis Democrats contribute to Piscataquis Regional Food Center, Helping Hands With Heart

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Along with helping the local Piscataquis Regional Food Center, Piscataquis County Democrats are supporting Helping Hands With Heart which aids families struggling with supplying the basic necessities of life. With the high cost of heating fuel, electricity, gasoline and housing etc., many families are in a crisis situation. Helping Hands With Heart is there for assistance as well as the Food Center.

After raising money through a raffle as well as donations from the recent Fall Fundraiser, the Piscataquis Democrats were able to give each organization a check for $750. The PCDC also delivered an abundance of food items for the shelves at the Food Center. Affordability has become a crisis for families in need especially with the massive cuts to SNAP, USDA, LIHEAP, Medicaid and other programs that support the most needy.

The PCDC recently gave $750 to the Food Center.

Kelly Sirimoglu, executive director of the Food Center, shared that the Food Center receives very little federal money now. The Emergency Food and Shelter Program owes them about $13,000 which they may never receive. Both organizations stressed how they are receiving calls everyday with new families requesting support. With winter coming, help is needed more than ever.

The PCDC Service Committee will continue its mission to support families in need. The committee is grateful to everyone who made a donation, purchased a raffle ticket or bid on a silent auction item at the Fall Fundraiser. Those who would like to support the work of the Service Committee, can mail a check to PCDC, PO Box 133, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426, c/o Service Committee or at https//secure.actblue.com/donate/pcdcservice. Thank you for your support! All proceeds will benefit local families in need.
