Final preparations underway for third annual Walk for Hope

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Northern Light Mayo Hospital will welcome friends, families, cancer survivors and caregivers on Saturday, Sept. 19 for the third annual Walk for Hope, a community event dedicated to supporting cancer care in Piscataquis County. Participants will come together to honor those affected by cancer, celebrate survivors and raise awareness and support for local cancer services.

Funds will benefit the Tracy Hibbard Kasprzak Cancer Treatment Center and support patients through the Patient Assistance Fund. This year, a portion of the money raised will fund oncology support totes to bring comfort and encouragement to cancer patients throughout their journey. Each tote contains a cozy blanket, lotion, petroleum jelly, lip balm, hard candy, phone charger, journal, pen and gas card.

The 2025 Walk for Hope saw significant growth — $49,000 was raised by more than 330 participants for a 50% increase in fundraising from the event’s first year. Event organizers hope to build upon the momentum and exceed $50,000 this year.

Walk for Hope includes a non-competitive 5K walk/run in the neighborhood surrounding the hospital campus. Participants can enjoy food, music and activities for kids and families before and after the walk. Walk for Hope participants are encouraged to start teams with families, friends, and co-workers, register individually or participate virtually.

The event will kick off at 9 a.m. at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, 897 West Main St. in Dover-Foxcroft.
