HJ Crosby Band Camp and concert coming to Dexter

DEXTER — The 2026 Harold J. Crosby Community Band Camp is Sept. 18-20. This camp was created to bring musicians (wind, brass and percussion) together to play the works of Dexter-born composer Harold J. Crosby and other Maine composers and arrangers. The weekend will end with a free concert at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20 at the Dexter Town Hall.

Guest conductor is Dr. James Chesebrough, bringing approximately 30 years of experience as a musical educator and conductor in Ohio and New England. He now conducts and has arranged music for two historic 19th century bands; The Newmont Military Band and the Yankee Brass Band. As a trombonist, Dr. Chesebrough has performed internationally with multiple ensembles and numerous big bands throughout New England.

The band camp will be at the Performing Arts Center 8-12 Main Street Dexter. It is sponsored by the Carl R. Cuthbert Community Band Foundation, which promotes playing and enjoying music at all levels. New players are always welcome as well volunteers to support this and other band events.
