Dove Tail Bats among Maine Discovery Museum Maine Science Awards winners
BANGOR — Maine Discovery Museum announced the honorees for the inaugural Maine Science Awards, a new annual celebration recognizing the scientists, innovators, researchers and advocates advancing science across Maine. Tickets are now on sale for the awards ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Hollywood Casino Bangor.
Honorees include Dove Tail Bats of Shirley which will be recognized with the Surprising Science award. Dove Tail Bats applies precision science and engineering to the craft of baseball, using Maine hardwood and cutting-edge scanning technology to produce bats used by players across all levels of baseball, including Major League Baseball.

The evening will bring together Maine’s scientific community, business leaders, educators and neighbors for cocktails and curiosity, dinner and a formal ceremony honoring this year’s five honorees.

This year’s honorees represent the very best of that work, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate them at our inaugural ceremony.”
As the first event of its kind for the Museum, organizers say the Maine Science Awards is intended to become an annual tradition, a night that spotlights excellence in Maine science and sends attendees home inspired.

Maine Discovery Museum’s mission is to help people of all ages discover the world around them through creative exploration and science. Founded 25 years ago in Bangor, MSM has grown into Maine’s statewide hub for informal public science education, serving approximately 75,000 people annually through on-site exhibits and community-based outreach programs.
