Babysitting course teaches essential childcare and safety skills

GUILFORD — Northern Light Mayo Hospital will offer a babysitting course for young teens, grades 6-8, June 17, 18 and 19 at Friends of Community Fitness in Guilford. Students who complete the course will learn all the basics needed to become responsible sitters.

The course provides hands-on practice in lifesaving techniques to teens who are home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting so they are equipped with the skills and confidence to act in an emergency. Participants also receive instruction on how a child’s age affects their care, how to prevent problem behavior, and how to run their own babysitting business.

Participants will receive Babysitting, CPR, First Aid and Stop the Bleed certifications.

A closing ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the class on June 19. Students will present posters, demonstrate hands-on skills and receive their certificates.

Space is limited, and advanced registration is required. A fee of $160 plus a $10 facility fee covers instruction, materials, and everything needed to complete the class. To register, please email beweatherbee@northernlight.org or call 207-991-6051.
