Friends of Community Fitness hosts annual PCES grade 4 fishing event

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Friends of Community Fitness proudly hosted its annual grade 4 fishing event for students from Piscataquis Community Elementary School on May 19 at Kiwanis Park. With beautiful weather — 80 degrees, sunny skies and a light breeze — the day provided the perfect setting for an unforgettable outdoor experience.

Students had tremendous success on the water, catching well over 20 fish throughout the event. For many of the children this was their very first time fishing, making each catch an exciting and memorable moment.

DAY OF FISHING — Friends of Community Fitness hosted its annual grade 4 fishing event for Piscataquis Community Elementary School students on May 19 at Kiwanis Park in Dover-Foxcroft.

A highlight of the day was the generous donation from Varney Ford of Newport, which provided 39 brand-new fishing poles — one for each student to take home. This meaningful contribution ensures that participants can continue fishing beyond the event and build on their new skills.

“We are so happy the kids are learning a fun activity they can do outdoors,” Britney Gallagher, executive director of Community Fitness, said. “We hope this keeps kids away from drugs and a sedentary lifestyle.”

The event was further supported by Eli’s Market, which donated bananas, apples and water to keep participants energized, and the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office whose members volunteered their time while also providing coffee and donuts for volunteers and staff.

Friends of Community Fitness extends its sincere gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers and community partners who helped make the day such a success. Events like this continue to foster healthy, active lifestyles and create lasting memories for local youth.
