GFWC MIOSAC Club News

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC MIOSAC Club  met May 5 for the annual meeting.

President Laurie Ducat called the meeting to order and thanked hostesses Betsey Ryan and Vicki Moschella. Ryan led the Club Collect, Pledge of Allegiance and The Americans Creed.

Secretary Diane Leighton took roll call with 11 members answering. She then read the report of the last meeting.

There was no correspondence to read. Anne Cress read the treasurer’s report. The advisory committee reported no correspondence.

HOSTESSES — Hostesses for the GFWC MIOSAC Club annual meeting were Vicki Moschella and Betsey Ryan.

Publicity Chair Minnie McCormick said she had sent in the last meeting news to the Piscataquis Observer..

Lookout Chair Brenda Quiet reported on absent member Dot Tonick. Tonick was involved in a bad accident in Florida and has not been able to return home. It was suggested we send get well emails as we have no definite address to send to.

Under unfinished business, Ducat announced two DOC fellows will return to speak again in October.

Leighton reported that the pinwheels that were “planted” sponsoring Prevent Child Abuse Month have been taken down in an agreeable time frame of two weeks.

A thank you was extended to GFWC Maine President Suzanne Raymond for negotiating price change for rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn where spring convention will be held in May 14-15.

Five club members plan to attend. 

International Day of Service was discussed and will be announced at a later date.

Marian Doore Park ChairRheba Michaud spoke about having a clean-up day. A date will be announced later. 

Under new business, election of officers were announced: President Suzanne Raymond, Vice President Laurie Ducat, Recording Secretary Diane Leighton and Treasurer Anne Cress.

The regular meeting was adjourned and the annual meeting was called to order. Leighton read her report of our activities for the year 2025-26. We do a big amount of activities for a small group. 

We also raised money for the projects. Cress reported all incoming monies raised and spent.  There is enough money to support two local charities to be announced later.

The 90th birthday dinner for GFWC Club will be held at the Mill Cafe in Dover-Foxcroft on May 19. Formal meetings will be done for the summer, but things will be happening. The community directory will be the summer project.
