Penquis’ Decker has trio of top two throwing event finishes
BAR HARBOR — The Penquis Valley High School outdoor track & team traveled to Mount Desert Island High School for a Penobscot Valley Conference meet on May 2.
The Patriot girls scored 54 points to place third among seven schools.
Brooklyn Decker had the best shot put throw of the competition. Decker won with a heave measuring 29 feet, 8 inches, about six inches more than the 22-08.25 for runner-up Grace Burns of the Islesboro Central School.
Decker came in second in both the javelin and discus with her respective throws of 76-09 and 70-07.
Amara Driscoll finished third in these two throwing events at 73-03 and 66-01. Adalai Perkins was fourth in the javelin at 69-09.
Penquis had the No. 3, 4 and 5 placements in the 400 with Ashley Ladd at 1 minute, 7.64 seconds, Ava Shoopman at 1;15.44 and Ewa Ziolkowska at 1:15.78.
The Patriot boys scored 26 points to place fourth among seven teams.
Jareth Williams had the day’s top time in the 200-meter dash. He won in a time of 24.67 seconds as the only event entrant to break 25 seconds (MDI’s Isaac Ellis was the runner-up at 25.16 seconds).
Williams also came in second in the 100 at 11.87 seconds.
Ethan Lewis placed second in the 400 with his time of 59.52 seconds.
