Center Theatre to present Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘The Sound of Music’
DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts is proud to announce its upcoming production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s beloved classic, “The Sound of Music.” Following the unprecedented success of last year’s “Oklahoma!,” the theatre is bringing back the same powerhouse creative team to bring this legendary story to life on the local stage.
According to Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive director, “After the success of ‘Oklahoma!’ last year, we’re thrilled to have the same team of directors back to bring ‘The Sound of Music’ to life. Ashley Gosselin, our director, along with Deb Maynard, our band director, and Olga Maselli, our vocal director, know how to work with our talented local actors and musicians to create something special for the community. We can’t wait to share it!”
As with 2025’s “Oklahoma!”, the Center Theatre will be offering a pay-what-you-can dress rehearsal for “The Sound of Music” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7. The theatre is also partnering with the Mill Cafe, which is offering a special themed dinner that night to celebrate the production.
Based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, “The Sound of Music” tells the inspiring story of a young postulant who becomes a governess to the seven children of Captain von Trapp. Set in Austria on the eve of World War II, it features some of the most memorable songs in musical theatre history, including “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi” and “Edelweiss.”
The production will run for two consecutive weekends with curtain times at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 8 and May 15; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 and May 16; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 10 and May 17. Tickets for the production range from $8 to $20 and can be purchased by calling the Center Theatre at 207-564-8943, visiting www.centertheatre.org or stopping into the box office at 20 East Main St. in Dover-Foxcroft between the hours of noon and 7 p.m.
The production would not be possible without the support of local sponsors including Maine Biosensors, Win Win Thrift Store, the Piscataquis County Ice Arena, Dunham’s Furniture and Bob’s Farm, Home, and Garden. The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization celebrating its 20th year with a mission to engage and inspire by making arts, education and entertainment accessible to its rural communities.
