Dexter baseball defeats Penquis with 16 runs in five innings
DEXTER — Dexter Regional High School scored 16 runs, with the final nine coming in the Tigers’ last trip to the plate in the bottom of the fourth, to defeat Penquis Valley High School 16-1 in a Class C/D North interclass baseball matchup on May 1.
The Tigers, who again this season are a cooperative program with neighboring Piscataquis Community High School, held the Patriots to two hits and six baserunners.
Soggy field conditions following a prior day of rain switched the game location from Milo to Dexter – the May 6 rematch will now be at Penquis’ Harris Field at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 — and the Tigers took advantage of the home field advantage. Dexter (3-1) collected 12 hits and nine walks in four innings and the team stole 22 bases.

HOME SLIDE — Dexter’s Kody Kimball slides in ahead of the throw to Penquis catcher Griffin Romero during the home half of the second inning on May 1. The Tigers defeated the Patriots 16-1 in five innings.
The 16 runs are only the Tigers’ second most in the first week of the season, with the team picking up 17 in a 17-1 victory at Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield one week prior.
All nine Dexter starters got on base with the top four hitters in the lineup together reaching in 12 of 16 plate appearances.
Leadoff batter Brady Gaw went 3-for-4 with a double and he had a pair of RBIs, runs scored and steals. From the No. 3 spot Noah Kain finished 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, two runs and a team-high five steals.
Kody Kimball tripled as part of his two hits and he also walked while coming home four times, driving in a run and swiping three bases. Clean-up hitter Will Simpson reached in three at-bats without a hit, drawing ball four in two appearances and being awarded first after being hit with a pitch. One walk came with the bases loaded, Simpson scored twice himself and he stole four bases.

CAUGHT IN A PICKLE — Jacoby Landry got caught between third base and home in the top of the second before being tagged out by catcher Kody Kimball. Dexter’s Noah Kain is playing third base and Penquis’ Lucas Hoffman looks on after stepping out of the batter’s box.
Isiah Robinson earned the win on the mound with four innings of work. He scattered a pair of hits and two walks while striking out five and having one unearned run.
Colin Mountain tossed a perfect top of the fifth with a strikeout.
Penquis (0-3) got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning
With one out, Liam Atkinson dropped an infield single down inside the chalk to the left of home plate. With Aiden Murano at the plate, Atkinson swiped second and then third base.

RUNNER AT THIRD — Jacoby Landry is ready for a throw to the bag with Brady Gaw of Dexter. Gaw was driven in on Noah Kain’s single to leftfield.
Murano sent a grounder toward first base to drive in Atkinson; Murano reached on an error.
