Gudroe earns top honors in UNE Alumni Council Essay Contest
BIDDEFORD — Cally Gudroe of Garland, a sophomore at the University of New England, was recognized at the University of New England’s 2026 University Awards ceremony, held April 21 at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Gudroe — a communications and media arts major — received first place for the Alumni Council Essay Contest Award.
The 2026 essay prompt asked students to describe a moment or experience that shaped one of their values or perspectives, explore how that personal experience connects to social, political or economic changes and consider how those changes might shape the future.
The annual ceremony honors undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship, leadership and service. Award recipients are selected through a rigorous review process by a committee of representatives from across the university, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the Westbrook College of Health Professions, the Faculty Assembly Student Affairs Committee, the Global Education Program, the CAS Internship Office and the UNE Office of Student Affairs.
