Pine Tree Hospice and Center Theatre present ‘Betcha Didn’t Know’ monthly speaker series

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Pine Tree Hospice and the Center Theatre are pleased to announce the launch of “Betcha Didn’t Know,” a free, monthly public speaker series. This speaker series will be held on the third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at Center Theatre.

Organizers say the goal of the “Betcha Didn’t Know” series is to provide meaningful educational opportunities that support informed decision-making and community well-being.

“We’ve been hosting these monthly presentations for our volunteers for years,” said Kristen Wortman, Pine Tree Hospice executive director. As a licensed volunteer hospice, Pine Tree Hospice volunteers are required to obtain at least eight hours of continuing education each year to remain active, explained Wortman. “Our volunteers say that they get so much out of the presentations that we thought it would be helpful to open them up to the community. Every speaker will be representing some type of local resource or education on wellbeing, especially related to end of life.”

“Betcha Didn’t Know” invites community members to learn from knowledgeable guest speakers in a welcoming and accessible setting. The program is free, open to everyone, and requires no registration. The first three scheduled presentations will be held April 15, May 20 and June 17.

On April 15 Donna Peterson, Piscataquis County register of probate, will explain how probate works and how planning ahead can simplify what happens to assets like homes, bank accounts and family businesses after death.

The May 20 speaker is Melanie Pomeroy, Gentiva Hospice. Pomeroy will discuss what medical hospice care is, who qualifies and how it supports comfort and quality of life for patients and families.

Representatives from Navigating Wellness will offer a presentation on June 17. The Bangor and Dexter-based health service offers membership-based healthcare and will speak on how this growing model works and whether it may be a good fit for individuals and families.
