Maine Whoopie Pie Festival comes in second in national competition
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Maine Whoopie Pie Festival organizers announced that the Festival won second place as the best Specialty Food Festival in USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice Award. The Festival was one of 20 festivals around the country that were nominated but was the only festival in Maine to receive the honor. In first place was the Delta Hot Tamale Festival in Greenville, Mississippi.
“I can’t thank everyone who voted enough,” said Patrick Myers, executive director of the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts and organizer of the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival. “Everyone was so supportive of the effort, from our lead sponsor Shaw’s Supermarkets to everyone who voted every day! For our first year in the competition, earning second place is a real honor! Hopefully we’ll be nominated again next year and do even better!”

SECOND-PLACE FESTIVAL — The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival won second-place honors in national voting for the Best Specialty Food Festival in USA Today’s 10Best competition. The 2026 Festival will take place at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft on Saturday, June 13.
The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival started in 2009 and celebrates the taste of Maine’s Official State Treat, the whoopie pie. The Festival, taking place on June 13 at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds, will bring together dozens of bakers, hundreds of vendors, thousands of whoopie pie fans and tens of thousands of whoopie pies. Baker and vendor registration is now open at the festival website or by calling the Center Theatre at 207-564-8943.
The Festival is the largest annual fundraiser for the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce and the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts and supports the Theatre’s mission to engage and inspire by making art, education and entertainment accessible to our rural communities.
