Butler named Piscataquis County Ice Arena director

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Foxcroft Academy, serving as the managing partner of the Piscataquis County Ice Arena for the Libra Foundation, is pleased to announce the promotion of Lucas Butler to the position of director of PCIA. Butler had been the facilities coordinator of PCIA, which included rink operations. The promotion is effective immediately.

“I’m excited about this opportunity as we continue to grow the operations of PCIA,” said Butler. “I’ve been here from day one when we broke ground in 2018, and I look forward to seeing where we can go from here.”

Before joining PCIA in late 2019, Butler served as the Monson town manager from 2014-17 and then worked for the Libra Foundation as a project manager from 2017-19 during the revitalization of Monson and Dover-Foxcroft through its philanthropic efforts, including overseeing the building of the ice arena. According to Foxcroft Academy Head of School Arnold Shorey, Butler has proved to be a valuable asset to the PCIA.

“After carefully examining our current business structure and plan, it became clear that we needed to move some pieces to operate more efficiently,” said Shorey. “Lucas is well-respected in the community and has been a valuable member of our team, and having him lead the staff at PCIA should only strengthen the relationships PCIA has built with the surrounding area.”

The PCIA, which opened its doors in September 2019, has become a hub of community activity. It has been the home of Foxcroft Academy hockey, Penquis Panthers youth hockey, various hockey and skating clinics, curling, public skating, and much more. The growth of the building is a testament to the community’s support and is a crucial part of Butler’s long-term facility plan.

“We are still working out what various roles will be within PCIA, but the ultimate goal is to continue to run a class-A facility unique to this area and the state of Maine while providing great recreation opportunities for kids and adults in our communities,” added Butler. For more information on programming and events at the Piscataquis County Ice Arena, visit its website at www.thepcia.com.
