Foxcroft teams sweep home meet

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Foxcroft Academy girls and boys teams both finished in first place during a home Penobscot Valley Conference meet on May 3.

The Pony girls compiled a score of 253 points to place first among a field of three schools as the team had five first-place performances.

Nina Huber had top honors in the 800 with her time of 3 minutes, 5.89 seconds. Huber also ran the third leg of the winning 4×400 relay as Heidi Clawson, Ingrid Berling, Huber, and Alexis Heretakis combined for a time of 4:59.05.

Heretakis had the meet’s top disnance in the long jump as her leap measured 14 feet, 5 inches. She also anchored the top 4×100 relay with Hilary Howard, Paige Weidman, Berling, and Hertakis running a time of 57.27 seconds.

Marion Deitz won the high jump for Foxcroft at a height of 4-08.

Piscataquis Community School came in second in the girls’ standings with 210 points. The Pirates had 11 first-place finishes.

Jazmin Channon picked up three of these. She won both the 100 and 200 with respective times of 13.55 and 29.20 seconds. Channon came in first in the triple jump at 30-05.

Molly Goodwin placed first in the 1,600 in the 6:53.33, as well as the javelin with her throw of 83-03. She also ran the second leg of the winning 4×800 relay as Sadie Kelley, Goodwin, Tiara Channon, and Olivia Goodwin covered the race in 12:46.02.

Ava Goulette won both the shot put and discus with heaves of 31-10 and 95-03.

Also winning events for PCHS was Taylor Herrick in the 400 at 1:22.18, Tiara Channon in the 300 hurdles at 1:07.33, and Kelly in the 1,600 racewalk at 9:47.64.

The Dexter Regional High School girls came in third in Dover-Foxcroft with 19 points.

Brookelin Dorman picked up three second-place finishes. She was second in the 200 at 30.55 seconds and second in the triple jump at 27-07.

The Tigers’ 4×100 relay also came in second as Mackenzie Curtis, Dorman, Maddy Lagross, and Addy Gudroe combined for a time of 1:02.99.

In the boys meet, Foxcroft finished in first place among three schools with a score of 229 points behind a dozen first-place performances.

Jack Kingsbury swept the hurdles events, winning the 110-meter hurdles at 17.24 seconds and the 300-meter distance at 46.48 seconds.

Hunter McSorley had the top shot put and javelin throws at 43-06 and 144-02.

Zachary Peirce earned top mile honors with his time of 5:17.57. He anchored the winning 4×400 relay with Aiden Bryant, Hawken Hall, Terry Pham, and Peirce covering the distance in 4:19.78.

The Ponies ended up sweeping the individual running events on the track. Conner Donahue had the day’s fastest time in the 100 at 11.93 seconds and Eamon Vandermast won the 200 in 25.04 seconds.

Carter Straehle’s time of 1:10.64 was tops in the 400 as was the 2:17.19 for Joesph Knapp in the 800. Runner Jarrett finished first in the 3:200 at 11:07.85.

Jackson Smith added a first-place jump in the high jump at 5-10.

The Dexter boys came in third with 59 points.

Damiair Miller  led the Tigers by winning the long and triple jumps at respective distances of 18-11 and 41-08.

The Tigers’ Brady Jerome won the discus with his throw of 114-07.75.

The PCHS boys were third with 16 points.

Chris Merrill had his team’s top performance as he won the 1,600 racewalk in a time of 12:06.31.
