Friends of Community Fitness receives grant from Masonic lodges to support the Healthy4Life program

GUILFORD — Friends of Community Fitness has been granted $2,000 from Mount Kineo Masonic Lodge and Abner Wade Lodge to support the Healthy4Life fitness program. This program is specifically geared toward community members that have health concerns that may hinder them from traditional exercise classes. This small group class celebrates successes together and encourages each other in our daily challenges.

Community Fitness is excited to have reached a point of considering adding a second class to  the program. The organization has 17 people signed up for the class at this time. Classes focus on a small group with a lot of individual attention due to the specific needs of each participant. Based on member needs, 17 people is close to full capacity.

“This class has changed the lives of many of our members. It has enabled more mobility, less  chronic pain and a place to socialize with others. We are so happy to offer this to the  community,” said Terri Kelley Palin, senior program director.

MASONIC GRANT — The Mount Kineo Masonic Lodge and Abner Wade Lodge granted $2,000 to Friends of Community Fitness in Guilford to support the Healthy4Life fitness program.

Healthy4Life not only provides a safe, structured environment for individuals with a variety of  medical conditions and limitations, it offers an opportunity for peer support and socialization  that many of our members lack from living alone. When asked, the participants expressed the  importance of socialization as one of the most important parts of the program. Additionally, members have stated the following results:

“The people and the exercises help me limber up. I have a lot of arthritis,” K.B.

“The exercises and interaction with others keep us moving. We have a great instructor,” C.B.

“I have tried other programs that have not worked. This is gentle enough that I can do it and  feel better and can move more freely,” J.C.
