Pony boys track finish second in Bucksport

BUCKSPORT — The Foxcroft Academy boys scored 93 points to place second among five schools during a Penobscot Valley Conference track meet at Bucksport High School on April 26.

Pony senior Jack Kingsbury had the day’s top time in the 300-meter hurdles at 44.85 seconds. He also came in second in the 110 hurdles at 17.73 seconds, and was third in the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches. Kingsbury opened the third-place 4×400 relay team as he, sophomore Hawken Hall, junior Terry Pham, and senior Zachary Peirce combined for a time of 4:04.33.

Senior Jackson Smith tied for first in the high jump as he and Bucksport senior Evan Donnell both cleared the bar at 6-00. Smith also had a second-place performance in the long jump at 19-07.

The Foxcroft 4×100 relay finished in first place at 47.40 seconds, with junior Shane Birungi and sophomores Landon Smith, Eamon Vandermast, and Conner Donahue making up the squad.

Donahue came in second in both the 100 at 11.92 seconds and triple jump at 38-00.75. He also was third in the long jump at 19-03.

Junior Khoa Ho placed second in the 200 with his time of 26.86 seconds. He was followed by sophomore Aiden Bryant in third place at 26.91 seconds and Birungi in fourth at 26.98 seconds.

Bryant finished second in the 300 hurdles at 49.15 seconds, and he was fifth in the 100 hurdles at 19.10 seconds.

Foxcroft had other third-place performances from sophomore Joseph Knapp in the 800 at 2;14.45, Hall in the 300 hurdles at 49.52 seconds, and Landon Smith in the triple jump at 37-11.

Senior Hunter McSorley had fifth-place throws in both the javelin and shot put at 118-09 and 41-07.50.

Freshman Carter Staehle was fifth in the 400 with his time of 70.15 seconds.

The boys from Penquis Valley High School were fourth in Bucksport with a score of 19 points.

Sophomore Jareth Williams won the 100 with his time of 11.80 seconds. He also anchored the third-place 4×100 relay team as juniors Lucas Chai and James Chenkin, freshman Donovan McEwen, and Williams ran the lap in 50.40 seconds.

McEwen placed second in the 400 in 61.34 seconds. Chai was fifth in the 200 at 27.02 seconds.

In the girls’ meet, Foxcroft Academy came in third among four point-scoring schools with 32 points.

Freshman Marion Deitz finished second in the high jump standings at 4-08.

Freshman Jasmine Hall had a second-place throw in the shot put at 33-03.

The Ponies were third in two relay events. The 4×100 team — seniors Hilary Howard and Paige Weidman and juniors Ingrid Berling and Alexis Heretakis — ran a time of 57.57 seconds. The Pony 4×400 — junior Heidi Clawson, Berling, junior Mina Huber, and Heretakis — finished in 5:03.85.

Heretakis came in third in the long jump at 15 feet. She was also fourth in the 100 at 14.20 seconds.

Howard placed fourth in the 200 at 30.88 seconds, and Clawson was fourth in the 300 hurdles at 64.18 seconds.

The Ponies had fifth-place performances from Berling in the 100 at 14.62 seconds and Huber in the 800 at 3:00.65.

The Penquis girls came in fourth with nine points.

Sophomore Brooklyn Decker had a third-place throw in the javelin, measuring 76 feet. She also was fifth in the shot put 28-11.50.

The Patriots also had a trio of fifth-place performances. Sophomore Ashley Ladd was fifth in the 200 at 32.01 seconds, the 4×100 relay (senior Layla Chai, freshman Violet Chai, Ladd, and senior Addison Conklin) was fifth in 61,28 seconds, and junior Naima Ali came in fifth in the discus at 68-05.
