Events planned to celebrate happy childhoods

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and recognizes the importance of communities working together to strengthen families. During this month and throughout the year, Penquis CAP Inc. and its Prevention Council share the message that supportive communities and strong families can prevent child abuse and neglect. The Penquis Prevention Council is one of 16 councils in Maine that are part of the Maine Children’s Trust and working to strengthen families, promote healthy relationships, and support communities.

This month the Penquis Prevention Council has several activities planned to bring families together and celebrate healthy childhoods.

April 5 – Wear Blue Day, show support for strong families and great childhoods. Submit photos to CMCMILLEN@PENQUIS.ORG to be posted on the Penquis Family Connections Facebook page throughout the day. All submissions will be entered into a drawing for a large basket of whoopie pies.

April 6 – Kickoff Saturday 9:30-11 a.m. Milo Free Public Library, 4 Pleasant Street. Enjoy craft activities and a mini soccer game with Milo Park and Rec.

April 8 – Music Monday 9:30-11 a.m. Guilford Memorial Library, 4 Library Street. Enjoy craft activities and music.

April 9 – Tasty Tuesday 9:30-11 a.m. Brownville Free Public Library, 27 Church Street. Enjoy a story, craft activities, making a snack, and receive a take-home apron.

April 10 – Work Together Wednesday 9:30-11 a.m. Shaw Public Library, 9 Lily Bay Road in Greenville. Enjoy fun games and working together.

April 11 – Artsy Thursday 9:30-11 a.m. Monson Public Library, 35 Greenville Road. Enjoy arts and crafts and receive a take home work apron.

April 11 – Free showing of “Sign” 6:30 p.m. at Center Theatre, 20 East Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft..

April 10 – Family Friday 9:30-11 a.m. at Thompson Free Library, 186 East Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft. Enjoy fun-filled games for the whole family.

April 14 – Project Play Sunday 10 a.m. to noon at the Piscataquis Ice Arena, 1049 West Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft. Play activities, resource fair & touch-a-truck event for children of all ages. Due to an expected high turnout registration for this event is recommended. Register for Project Play at https://forms.gle/D2Nwk7HeRbsLYugNA.

This year’s events are sponsored by The Maine Association for the Education of Young Children, the Piscataquis Ice Arena, Dover-Foxcroft Shaw’s, The Center Theatre, and the Maine Discovery Museum.
