GUILFORD — The vehicle of a Guilford Fire Department first responder was struck while officials were responding to a rollover crash in Abbot on March 7.

Deputies from the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office were notified of a rollover crash on Main Road at around 9:45 p.m., and members of the Guilford Fire Department arrived first to the scene in their personal vehicle, according to officials

The driver of the vehicle involved in the rollover crash was not injured.

The Guilford fire vehicle, a pickup truck equipped with flashing lights, parked and activated the emergency lights and attempted to slow traffic in the area. The parked truck was struck by a 2022 Chevy pickup truck, driven by 29-year-old George Dyke, shortly after officials arrived at the scene.

Dyke was transported to a local hospital, but did not experience life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is ongoing. Officials believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in the secondary crash.
