Dover-Foxcroft Firefighters Association Ice Fishing Derby results

DOVER-FOXCROFT —  The 13th annual Dover-Foxcroft Firefighters Association Ice Fishing Derby took place on Sebec Lake Feb. 24-25.

Rick Pembroke announced the winners on Sunday afternoon at the Greeley’s Landing weigh station with the winners’ names and catch statistics posted on a leaderboard.

He said John Moore took top honors and a $600 prize with his lunker weighing 16.205 pounds and measuring 36.5 inches. “It was a wicked fish,” Pembroke said. “He didn’t get the record, but boy he didn’t miss it by much.”

Emmet Hill had the top catch in the junior class with his junior giant weighing 4.99 pounds and being 25.5 inches in length. Hill won a $200 and auger for his prize.

Pembroke said Hill came in hugging his fish with its tail wagging and body going the other way and compared to Hill the catch was“almost as long as he was tall.”

Reading aloud other winners Pembroke said the first-place salmon “was a very healthy Sebec Lake salmon, that was a beautiful big, fat fish so things are good.”

He said Zach Dever had the winning perch and mentioned the Dever family buys a number of derby tickets and has put a lot of fish on the board over the years.

“Forty-eight fish were registered and we heard about a lot more caught than that,” Pembroke said.

He said Ella Foss had the biggest pickerel among junior anglers at 2.475 pounds and 21 inches. Foss won a Loring basket and trap set worth about $400.

OVERALL WINNER — John Moore had the winning fish in the 2024 Dover-Foxcroft Firefighters Association Ice Fishing Derby over the weekend with his lunker weighing 16.205 pounds and measuring 36.5 inches.

The prizes will help the youngsters continue. “If you can keep them fishing the tradition goes on,” Pembroke said.

“That’s it for this year, we hope to see you next year and thank you for your participation,” he concluded.

Trout first $200 Hunter McSorley .56 pounds, 11.5 inches; second $100 Jason Greenlaw .435 pounds, 10.75 inches.

WINNING TOGUE — Thomas Cleaves hauled in the top togue in the junior division with the fish weighing 4.985 pounds and being 25.50 inches in length.

Perch first $75 Zach Dever 1.385 pounds, 13.25 inches; second $50 Alan Larrabee 1.11 pounds, 12.75 inches.

Other first (pickerel) $75 Zach Thompson 2.63 pounds, 22.25 pounds; second $50 Justin Cleaves 2.625 pounds, 21.75 inches.

Junior class junior giant $200 and auger Emmet Hill 4.99 pounds, 25.50 inches.

SECOND-PLACE TOUGE — Max Parlin had the second-place junior division togue at 4.285 pounds, 24 inches.

Salmon first $100 Jonathan Crawford 1.725 pounds, 17.34 inches; second $50 Owen White .945 pounds, 15.50 inches.

Trout first $100 Luke Martin .325 pounds, 10.25 inches; second $50 Jonathan Crawford .3 pounds, 10.25 inches.

Perch first $100 Reilly Dever 1.3 pounds, 13 inches; second $50 Isla Mead .77 pounds, 11 inches.
