GFWC/Miosac Club News

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC/Miosac Club met Tuesday, Feb. 20 with 10 members attending. Other members were not feeling well and stayed home.

Rheba Michaud introduced Becky Quimby, director of Piscataquis County Food Bank. Quimby gave a very informative and interesting talk. We are lucky to have her and with her experience she does a wonderful job. She is passionate about her work. Some of the club members volunteer there. They serve 520 families who can go twice a month and get lots of good food to feed their families. Quimby purchases the food from the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Thanks to Quimby!

President Minnie McCormick called the meeting to order welcoming members. Michaud led the Collect, Pledge of Allegiance and American’s Creed. Secretary Diane Leighton took roll call and read the report of the last meeting. Suzanne Raymond gave the treasurer’s report. Brenda Quiet noted the next meeting will be March 5, with the program being a Pound Party with Roxy McGlauflin in charge. That is a good fundraiser and lots of fun!

There was no new business to discuss so the meeting was adjourned and members enjoyed refreshments provided by Anne Cress.

The Feb. 6 meeting was conducted by Vice President Wendy Hutchins. The high school art  contest was discussed and more details will come at the next meeting. Also a fundraiser at the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival and Community Directory this summer were discussed. Members volunteered to be on the committee. There will be more on that later.

Members made valentines for Pleasant Meadows and Hilltop Nursing home residents. Quiet delivered them and residents were very happy to receive them. She also delivered health care items that the club members are donating.
