Pair of Ponies swim at Class B championship

ORONO — Foxcroft Academy students Dylan Coy and Maddy Gaylord both placed at the 2024 girls Class B swimming and diving championship on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the University of Maine. The two are part of the Northern Penobscot cooperative program — which also includes swimmers from Old Town and Orono high schools — and the team scored 119 points to place eighth among a field of 20 schools.

Coy anchored the sixth-place 200 medley relay team as the Northern Penobscot foursome swam a time of 2 minutes, 2.26 seconds. She also opened the eighth-place 200 freestyle medley relay which finished in 1:54.03.

Individually Coy came in 11th in the 200 IM at 2:29.76, and was 13th in the 100 butterfly at 1:10.46.

Gaylord swam the first leg of the 10th-place 400 freestyle relay team as this Northern Penobscot squad finished in 4:31.94. She also came in 15th in the 100 backstroke at 1:11.82.
