Dexter cheer finishes second at PVC championship

MILLINOCKET — The Dexter Regional High School cheer team finished in second place at the 2024 Penobscot Valley Conference Class C championship on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Stearns High School. The Tigers, who also were second a year ago, had the second-highest score among the 14 Class C programs.

Team standings are 1. Sumner, 2. Dexter, 3. Central, 4. Houlton, 5. Bucksport, 6. Orono, 7. Calais, 8. Penquis, 9. Bangor Christian, 10. Narraguagus, 11. Mattanawcook, 12. Penobscot Valley, 13. Machias, 14. Foxcroft Academy.

Next will be the Class C North championship at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Cony High School of Augusta. The top eight teams move on to the Class C championship, a week later at the Augusta Civic Center. 

A year ago Dexter won the regional title, before finishing as the Class C runner-up. 

In the closest competition of the four 2023 state cheering championships at the Augusta Civic Center on Feb. 11, the  Lisbon-St. Dominic’s of Auburn cooperative squeaked by Dexter by only .20 points (78.40-78.20) to defend its C title and win its third crown in five years.
