Milo Garden Club continues community caring

By Victoria Eastman

MILO — Penobscot District President Carol Smith and Advisor Carleen Harriman were warmly welcomed at Milo Garden Club’s November meeting. They brought news about the Garden Club Federation of Maine’s 92nd Annual Convention to be held at Buchanan Alumni House at the University of Maine in Orono on June 20-21.

While visiting, the women participated in the club’s annual pig-in-a-poke auction and were among other high bidders winning prettily wrapped mystery gifts donated by members. Proceeds were later donated to Dyer’s Hope House in Milo.

Mystery gifts were also a feature at Milo Garden Club’s Christmas potluck luncheon in December. In addition to a gift swap among members, they also happily donated new toys for the Kiwanis Secret Santa program.

The club’s generosity will continue into the new year. At the first meeting of the year on Jan. 9 donations for PAWS of Milo and Penquis Animal Welfare Sanctuary will be collected. The meeting begins at 1 p.m. at the Kiwanis Building off outer Park Street in Milo.
