Northern Light Mayo Hospital to hold second produce pop-up market

DOVER-FOXCROFT — In November, Northern Light Mayo Hospital distributed 1,000 pounds of carrots, squash, apples, plums, kale, and other fruits and vegetables at its very first produce pop-up market. Given the impact of food insecurity around the holidays, Mayo Hospital will hold a second free pop-up market on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or until supplies run out.

“Our first pop-up market was well attended, which speaks to the community’s interest in having access to fresh, healthy food,” says Kate Fergola, healthy eating active living coordinator at Mayo Hospital. “It can be difficult to stick to healthy eating habits over the holidays. Our pop-up market makes it easy to add fresh fruits and vegetables to the holiday dinner table at no cost.”

The market will take place in the parking lot outside of the Old Mayo building. Parking is available in the Northern Light Health Center parking lot. Attendees are asked to bring reusable bags to put their produce in, if available. Produce will not be available until 11:30 a.m.

While individuals experiencing food insecurity are encouraged to attend, the market is open to anyone who would like fresh fruits and vegetables.

Food for the pop-up produce market is provided by the Piscataquis Regional Food Center and Good Shepherd Food Bank.
