Moosehead summit to focus on economic prosperity

GREENVILLE — Mark your calendars for Wednesday, Nov. 1. That’s when the Moosehead Lake  Region Economic Development Corporation will bring together leading experts on our  regional economy to discuss new ideas and initiatives with businesses and community members.

The event will be held at the Blair Hill Inn in Greenville and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and  includes a buffet lunch. 

The morning session will focus on boosting the winter economy and features Heather Johnson, Maine’s  commissioner of economic and community development; Amy Lane, president of the Friends of the  Mountain; Steve Lyons, director of the Maine Office of Tourism; and Steve Tatko, vice president, Appalachian Mountain Club. 

Peter Van Allen, editor of Mainebiz, the award-winning flagship publication of the Mainebiz trade  association, will be the luncheon speaker.  

The afternoon is dedicated to several breakout sessions. Mike Theriault, co-owner of the Moose Creek  RV Resort in Greenville, will share the story of his entrepreneurial journey. Lee Umphrey, president and  CEO of Eastern Maine Development Corporation, will discuss workforce attraction and retention. Mike  Wilson, senior program director of the Northern Forest Center, will share strategies for expanding  workforce housing. Zach Means, president of Means Wealth, and his colleague TJ Herlihy will focus on  financial planning for entrepreneurs. 

“There will be plenty of opportunity for give-and-take and discussion on important economic issues,” Margarita Contreni, president of the MLREDC, said. “We invite everyone interested in smart economic  development in our region to attend.”
