Mountain View Correctional Facility resident dies

CHARLESTON — The Maine Department of Corrections stated Sept. 8 that a resident of the Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston had died.

Shannon Atwood, 53, died at approximately 8:23 a.m., the department said in a press release. His “death was attended by medical personnel.” 

Reached by email, a department spokesperson declined to give additional information or provide a cause of death “at this time.”

Atwood began serving a sentence for murder in 2009. His earliest release date would have been August 2054.
