Nearly $1.5M for Lincoln Street bridge advanced by Collins

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she advanced $1,455,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending for the Lincoln Street bridge project in Dover-Foxcroft in the Fiscal Year 2024 Homeland Security appropriations bill. The bill, which was officially approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee, now awaits consideration by the full Senate and House.

“Without adequate funding for maintenance, bridges that fall into disrepair become unsafe and subject to eventual closure, resulting in substantial detours and economic harm,” said Collins.  “By supporting bridge reconstruction, this funding will help to ensure that Mainers can reach their homes, jobs, and emergency services quickly and safely in the Dover-Foxcroft region. As the vice chairman of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for this funding as the appropriations process moves forward.”

“The Lincoln Street bridge is critical in terms of serving our downtown as well as local traffic on Lincoln Street,” said Dover-Foxcroft Town Manager Jack Clukey. “The project would improve safety and serve the community for many decades. This project certainly would not be possible without Congressionally Directed Spending and support from Senator Collins.”

BRIDGE UPGRADES — The bridge spanning the small stream underneath Lincoln Street in Dover-Foxcroft will be reconstructed with nearly $1.5 million advanced by U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee in Congressionally Directed Spending.

This funding would support the construction of the Lincoln Street bridge, which serves an important role for hazard mitigation in the Town of Dover-Foxcroft, as it is a crucial access point for emergency response.

This funding advanced through the Committee’s markup of the FY24 Homeland Security appropriations bill — an important step that now allows the bill to be considered by the full Senate. Committee consideration of legislation is a key part of regular order, which helps our government function efficiently and deliver results for the people of Maine and America.

In 2021, Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending.  Following this decision, Senator Collins has secured more than $500 million for hundreds of Maine projects for FY2022 and FY2023.  As the vice chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Collins is committed to championing targeted investments that will benefit Maine communities.
