Bryant and Smith win pair of conference frosh track titles

HAMPDEN — Foxcroft Academy’s Aiden Bryant and Landon Smith each won a pair of events at the 2023 Penobscot Valley Conference freshmen outdoor track & field championships on May 30 at Hampden Academy.

Bryant swept the hurdles as he came in first in the 110-meter event with his time of 18.76 events and at 300 meters in 46.09 seconds. Bryant also was seventh in the 200 at 26.58 seconds.

Smith finished first in both the long and triple jumps. He had the day’s top distance in the long jump at 17 feet, 11.75 inches and earned top triple jump honors at a distance of 36-11.75. Smith also was fifth in the 100 at 12.47 seconds.

Two Piscataquis Community High School ninth-graders placed in the top 10 in the 400. Landon McKenney was fifth at 67.64 seconds and Grant Higgins was eighth at 70.20 seconds.

In the girls’ meet, Ava Goulette of PCHS had the top throw in the shot put at a distance of 32-00.25.

Goulette also came in second in the discus with her distance of 85-06. She ran the third leg of the third-place 4×400 relay as Jazmin Channon, Sadie Kelley, Goulette, and Brookelynn Hunt combined for a time of 5:07.30.

Channon placed second in the 400 with her time of 71.35 seconds. She came in fifth in the 200 at 29.47 seconds, and was seventh in the 100 at exactly 14 seconds.

PCHS’ Molly Goodwin finished fourth in the javelin standings at 71-02. Brookelynn Hunt came in sixth in the event at 63-03 and Goulette joined her teammates in the top 10 with a eighth-place throw measuring 54-03. Hunt was also sixth in the discus at 64-03.

Sadie Kelley came in eighth in the 800 in 3:17.15.

Pirates Zoe McInnis and Billie Lynn Kunkel were ninth and 10th in the shot put with respective throws of 18-07.75 and 17-06.50.

Foxcroft Academy’s Lillian Makowski came in eighth in the long jump with her leap measuring 12-04.
