Pony boys finish fifth at indoor track conference championship

ORONO — The Foxcroft Academy boys scored 29 points to finish fifth among a field of seven schools at the 2023 Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League Small School Championship on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the University of Maine’s New Balance Field House.

Pony senior Eion Mccloskey had a pair of third-place performances in the sprints. Mccloskey came in third in the 55-meter finals in a time of 7.15 seconds and he finished third in the 200 at 25.50 seconds.

Mccloskey also anchored the fourth-place 4×200 relay team. Senior Kyle Jankunas, sophomore Khang Nguyen, junior Zachary Peirce, and McCloskey combined for a time of 1:49.04.

Mccloskey also was seventh in the long jump at a distance measuring 16 feet, 4.5 inches.

Pony sophomore Runner Jarrett placed in both distance events. Jarrett finished fourth at two miles with his time of 11:10.26. He also came in fifth in the mile at 5:07.75.

Jankunas scored points in the 55-meter hurdle and 55-meter finals. In the 55 hurdles he was fourth in 8.60 seconds, and in the 55 finals Jankunas was fifth in 7.36 seconds.

Peirce added a point in the 400 as he placed sixth with his time of 1:00.69.

Full team results are 1. Orono High School 168 points; 2. George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 77; 3. Sumner Memorial High School of Sullivan 56; 4. Bucksport High School 48; 5. Foxcroft Academy 29; 6. Central High School of Corinth 27; and 7. Bangor Christian 14.

Next up is the Class B championship starting at noon on Monday, Feb. 20 at Bates College in Lewiston.
