Dover-Foxcroft Select Board OKs fee increases for waste disposal

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Dover-Foxcroft residents and businesses can expect an increase in disposal fees starting in February.

The Dover-Foxcroft Select Board approved a revised fee schedule during its meeting Monday night.

Costs increased from $5 to $10 in most cases. For example, for commercial deliveries involving municipal solid waste, the pick-up only fee rose from $20 to $25, and for compactor and box trucks it rose from $90 to $100.

The select board’s first meeting of 2023 was quick, and members voted on only a handful of items. They also heard updates from the town manager, including new recreational activities for residents and how the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department used a new fire apparatus during a significant structure fire last week.

Here are other highlights from Monday’s meeting:

  • The board appointed a steering committee for a project to redevelop the Mayo Mill dam and hydro facility downtown. Three select board members are on the committee, plus they appointed resident Chris Maas, who also serves on the town’s planning board, and Denise Buzzelli, the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce’s executive director. Town Manager Jack Clukey recommended that the committee start with five people, but it could later expand to seven.
  • Adult volleyball and pickleball will be offered at the town office’s gymnasium starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. The town’s promotion and development committee heard from residents interested in the activities and decided to start offering the recreational activities.
  • The town plans to seek bids this month for 2023 paving and receive them in late February or early March, Clukey said.
