GFWC Miosac Club has its first meeting of the year

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Oct. 4 our new GFWC MIOSAC Club President Minnie McCormick welcomed 12 members and three guests to the first meeting of our new year (2022-23). Guests were Ramona, Kathie, and Lorna.

The meeting was put on hold while our new advisory committee consisting of Brenda Quiet, Roxy McGlaughlin, and Suzanne Raymond served us all a wonderful “Souper Supper.” The soups were all homemade accompanied by homemade pickles and other appetizers and desserts. We didn’t go hungry — very delicious.

McCormick called the business meeting to order at 6:45. Diane Leighton did roll call and secretary’s report. Raymond read the treasurer’s report.

We discussed our last two get-togethers in the summer and early fall. One was the 86th Miosac Club’s (organized in 1936) birthday party at McCormick’s home. The second get together was a porch party at Rheba Michaud’s home.

Quiet, of the advisory committee, announced the date and place of our next meeting.

Lookout Chair Vickie Parsons told us of one member’s illness.

Raymond announced that the GFWC Fall Conference will be in Augusta at the Senator Inn on Oct. 15. Five members will be attending.

Raymond also reported on the board of directors meeting that was held on July 13. She is the parliamentary advisor and parliamentary secretary of GFWC Maine. Very informative for new officers, committee chairmen, new club presidents, etc.

Speakers discussed topics like “let’s go fly a kite together,” “soaring to new heights,” “and joy of yellow tulips”.

The meeting was adjourned and McCormick asked Raymond to present our newest member, Laurie Ducat, whom Raymond had sponsored for new club membership and was a guest at the “porch party.” McCormick inducted her and gave her a club pin, club information, and resounding support from the club. We’re so happy to have Ducat as the newest Miosac Club member!
