SeDoMoCha shines the spotlight on outstanding students and staff
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Each month the SeDoMoCha School recognizes “Students in the Spotlight” celebrating pupils from kindergarten to grade 8 and a staff member who teachers and staff have determined best demonstrate a specific positive attribute or characteristic chosen for the timeframe from the Habits of Mind (a set of life skills for educators and parents).
Recently the May honorees were recognized for demonstrating empathy, and those recognized for June are continuous learners.
Empathy is the ability to understand what others are feeling and knowing how to help when needed. They are willing to put themselves out there to show support to others who may be struggling in that moment of time within their personal or school lives.
A continuous learner is an individual who is self-motivated, is continuously learning new skills, takes initiative, and is not afraid to tackle challenges.
May “Students in the Spotlight” are Jocelyn Grady (kindergarten), Jase Johnson (grade 1), Katherine Maddocks (grade 2), Ariah Johnson (grade 3), Jameson Kennedy (grade 4), Dahlia Malo (elementary unified arts), Rebecca Greenfield (grade 5), Nataleigh Perry (grade 6), Kaycie Bishop (grade 7), Savannah Lefevre (grade 8), and Natalie Healey (middle school unified arts. “Staff in the Spotlight” honors went to middle school guidance counselor Jeannine Reece.
Other nominated staff included special education teacher Andrea Cooper, grade 1 teacher Amelia Patterson, and grade 1 teacher Cecelia Dube.
June’s “Students in the Spotlight” are Alice Brooks (kindergarten), Connor Wilhelm-French (grade 1), Colton Butts (grade 2), Natalie Cannon (grade 3), Henry Buckner (grade 4), Summer Mallett (elementary unified arts), Cooper Knepp (grade 5), Jack Gallagher (grade 6), Madison Sands (grade 7), Lennon McAfee (grade 8), and Addie Guthrie (middle school unified arts). Grade 3 teacher Diane Stephen is the “Staff in the Spotlight” honoree.

Other nominated staff were grade 7 science teacher Cassidy Miller, grade 4 teacher Brian Miller, and grade 5 teacher CaSandra Goodness.
Students were called down to the multipurpose room to receive their certificates during a presentation. A representative of each grade level and for the arts in both the elementary and middle schools spoke briefly about each student before awarding them with a certificate and a lanyard.
