Collins announces nearly $2M for Maine airports

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, the ranking member of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that airports across Maine have received a total of $1,913,006. This funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fiscal Year 2022 Airport Improvement Program.

Among the recipients is the Dexter Regional Airport, which will receive $113,000 to seal its runway, taxiway, and apron surface pavement joints.

The  Greenville Municipal Airport is among those to receive a total of $180,000 to conduct studies to analyze the feasibility of installing automated weather observing systems. These systems would enhance the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations at the airports by providing accurate, current, and site-specific weather information.

“Airports promote job creation and economic development, expand access to health care in rural regions, and provide an essential transportation option in large states like Maine,” said Collins. “As a leader of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, I strongly supported this significant investment that will allow airports across our state to make much-needed improvements to their infrastructure, improving the safety and efficiency of operations.”

As the ranking member of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, Collins co-authors the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill that funds AIP each year.
