Theatre seeks teens for travelling show

The Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft announced that it is looking for area actors between the ages of 14 and 19 to take part in their 2022 Summer Travelling Show. This will be the second year of the Theatre’s summer program for teens after completing its successful inaugural year in 2021 with a travelling performance of “Twain by the Tale.” This summer, the Theatre has picked a selection of several short plays. Once assembled, the teens will pick several of the plays to learn or understudy so that each actor is not required to be present at all shows.

Derrick Buschmann, the Center Theatre’s technical director, and director of the Summer Travelling show, said the plays give both the Theater and the actors a lot of flexibility over the course of the summer. “We know that all the actors won’t be able to attend every performance,” Buschmann said, “So with these short plays we can accommodate that fact of life.”

Buschmann also stated that the performance locations will be different than in the summer of 2021, “All the performances in 2021 were outside. With the heat we had last summer the locations weren’t always the best thing for the actors or the audience. We’re looking at having most of the shows indoors this summer, although depending on availability we may still have some shows outside if necessary.”

The performances will begin in Monson on July 16 and end in mid- to late August. Because of the extended nature of the schedule, the Theatre will be providing a small stipend to the actors who perform in each show. The Theatre will also provide a meal after each performance and transportation to each show.

Any teen interested in being part of the summer travelling show should contact the Center Theatre by calling 207-564-8943 or emailing info@centertheatre.org. The Center Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation with a mission to make arts, education, and entertainment accessible to our rural communities to engage and inspire.
