Gagnon, Allen pace Dexter track at Hampden

HAMPDEN – Seniors Avery Gagnon and Cameron Allen combined for 29 points to help the Dexter Regional High School boys finish in fourth place among six schools at a Penobscot Valley Conference outdoor track and field meet at Hampden Academy on May 14. The Tigers finished the day with 45 total points.

Gagnon and Allen were 1, 2 in the triple jump as Gagnon won the event at a distance of 39 feet, 4.5 inches and Allen finished second at 37-07. Junior Trevor Speed was fifth at 32-01.

Gagnon and Allen were fourth and sixth respectively in the long jump at 18-01 and 17-06.50. Gagnon also finished fifth in the javelin with a throw measuring 102-05, and senior Gage Sinclair finished sixth in the event at 97-06.

Allen was part of a group of three Dexter hurdles who placed in the 110 high hurdles. Senior Miles Gadwah was third in a time of 20.03 seconds, Allen came in fourth at 20.73 seconds, and senior Elijah Warner rounded out the trio with his sixth-place time of 20.88 seconds.

Warner also came in third in the 300 hurdles at 52.18 seconds.

Bangor High School won the boys’ meet with a score of 253 points, followed by host Hampden with 131. George Stevens Academy of Blue was third with 66 and after fourth-place Dexter came 34 points for Houlton High School and 21 for Fort Kent Community High School.

In the girls’ meet, Dexter picked up 5.5 points to finish sixth among six schools.

Junior Elyssa Jermome finished fourth in the shot put with her throw measuring 23-09.75.

Junior Lauryn Brunner and Bangor sophomore Emma Syphers tied for fifth in the high jump as they both cleared the bar at 4-04.

Bangor won the girls meet with 328.5 points, about four times as much as runner-up Hampden. George Stevens came in third with 59 points, followed by 40 for Houlton, and 34 for Fort Kent.
