2 more Mainers have died and another 1,159 coronavirus cases reported across the state

Two more Mainers have died and another 1,159 coronavirus cases reported across the state, Maine health officials said Friday.

Friday’s report brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Maine to 185,773, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s up from 184,614 on Thursday. 

Of those, 136,902 have been confirmed positive, while 48,871 were classified as “probable cases,” the Maine CDC reported.

The statewide death toll stands at 1,824.

The most cases have been detected in Mainers younger than 20, while Mainers over 80 years old account for the largest portion of deaths. More cases have been recorded in women and more deaths in men.

So far, 4,093 Mainers have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. Information about those who are currently hospitalized wasn’t immediately available.

Cases have been reported in Androscoggin (18,778), Aroostook (8,782), Cumberland (38,840), Franklin (4,540), Hancock (5,408), Kennebec (17,711), Knox (4,457), Lincoln (3,963), Oxford (9,047), Penobscot (20,871), Piscataquis (2,314), Sagadahoc (3,874), Somerset (7,757), Waldo (4,604), Washington (3,322) and York (31,594) counties. Information about where an additional 11 cases were reported wasn’t immediately available.

As of Friday morning, the coronavirus had sickened 77,437,156 people in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as caused 915,618 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.
