Former Greenville police chief charged with criminal threatening

A former Greenville police chief was arrested and charged with criminal threatening, according to the Piscataquis County District Attorney’s Office.

Jeffrey Pomerleau, 53, of Greenville was arrested Jan. 15, though the circumstances surrounding his arrest have not been made public. Greenville Police Chief Jim Carr declined to comment on the reason for Pomerleau’s arrest.

His bail was set at $100 cash, according to information provided by the district attorney’s office. 

Pomerleau was ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with Balance Gym & Wellness Center in Greenville. He is also not to use or possess alcohol, illegal drugs or dangerous weapons and firearms.

Pomerleau ended his employment with the Greenville Police Department in May 2020, Carr said.

He began working at the department in 2007 and retired as chief in 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile page. He then worked in sales and distribution at the United States Postal Service. Pomerleau has worked as a security professional at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville since November 2020, his profile shows.

A former Greenville town manager and the Select Board appointed Pomerleau as chief in February 2010, according to a Bangor Daily News story.

After four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Pomerleau served with the Augusta Police Department, where he advanced through the ranks to lieutenant, according to the story. He left the department in 2007 to join the Greenville Police Department.

Pomerleau is scheduled to appear at Unified Criminal Court in Dover-Foxcroft at 8:30 a.m. April 4.
