Fort Kent girls advance with win over Penquis

FORT KENT – The Fort Kent girls advanced to the Class C North soccer quarterfinals with a 7-0 prelim shutout over No. 15 Penquis Valley on Friday, Oct. 22.

The No. 2 Warriors (13-1 overall) face No. 10 Dexter Regional High School (7-6-2) in a 3:30 p.m. quarterfinal matchup Wednesday, Oct. 27 in Fort Kent.

“Making it to the quarterfinals certainly is special as any day could be your last. Our ladies take that type of mindset every game,” Fort Kent coach Doug Cyr said. “We know that every team that is in the playoffs wants to win, we just have to want it more and play our game.  

Morgan Cyr led the Warriors with three goals. Payten Voisine, Hannah Lovley, Julia Cyr and Elly Sirois also registered goals for the team. Assists were made by Voisine, Cyr, Lovely, Nancy Martin, Ellie Roy, and Allee Morgan. 

Penquis goalkeeper Hope Lovell had her work cut out for her defending against the aggressive Fort Kent offense, and saved 17 of 23 shots

Fort Kent goalkeeper Larissa Daigle had one save on one shot.
