Pleasant River Lumber will match Pine Tree Hospice Annual Appeal donations

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Donations doubled! Pine Tree Hospice is elated to announce Pleasant River Lumber will be matching every Annual Appeal donation up to $20,000. As a non-profit non-medical volunteer hospice, Pine Tree Hospice does not receive any state or federal monies. All of our programming and services are free, making the Annual Appeal our most important fundraiser. The Annual Appeal kicks off Oct. 1.

Kristen Sutherland, executive director of Pine Tree Hospice says, “To be able to start our new fiscal year on such a high note is truly amazing.”

This past year Pine Tree Hospice grew, reaching and maintaining the highest client census since its incorporation in 1985. Sutherland added, “This growth is essential, as the needs of those we serve are multiplying, and having financial security means we can focus on the good work that we do for our neighbors.”

This past year and a half has been particularly difficult for caregivers as they have faced significantly more stress and isolation due to the pandemic. Beyond the respite volunteers provide, Pine Tree Hospice developed new programming for caregivers. These programs were offered online, allowing caregivers to connect throughout our service area. Our increased use of online platforms was expanded into other programs and volunteer training enabling us to keep meeting our mission when not able to be in person.

Pine Tree Hospice serves individuals with progressive life-limiting illnesses, caregivers, and the bereaved in communities throughout all of Piscataquis County and parts of Penobscot and Somerset counties. Often, our clients do not yet qualify for medical hospice and fall into a doughnut hole when it comes to other traditional support services.

To keep up with the demand of our growing number of clients, Pine Tree Hospice is holding a volunteer training beginning in November. Volunteers are the life blood of our organization, and if you, or anyone you know might be interested, please contact us at info@pinetreehospice.org, or call us at 207-802-8078.

Don’t forget donations to our Annual Appeal are doubled and may be sent to 883 West Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft, ME  04426. For more information about what we do, please visit our Facebook page, our website, or give us a call.
