Let’s Go! recognizes Northern Light Mayo Hospital in helping kids make healthy choices

Let’s Go! has recognized Northern Light Mayo Hospital of Dover-Foxcroft with the Site of Distinction award for a commitment to improving children’s health at health centers in Dover-Foxcroft, Milo, and Corinth. By following the program’s evidence-based strategies, we’re helping our youngest patients develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

One of these strategies includes talking with patients and families about healthy eating and active living when they come in for a visit. Northern Light Health Centers in Corinth, Milo, and Dover-Foxcroft are among 96 practices that care for children recognized for 2021. This is a particularly special achievement in light of all the changes that the pandemic brought to our practice this year.

“The wellness of the youth in our region is so important” said Hillary Starbird, community outreach supervisor. “We are proud to be part of the Let’s GO! 5-2-1-0 initiative, teaching children and families the importance of healthy eating and active living. Our goal is to improve the overall health of families in our region and by prioritizing the 5-2-1-0 model in our health centers we are achieving this in a fun and educational way.”

Introduced in 2012, the Let’s Go! recognition program identifies and celebrates health care practices for their role in improving the health of all children. The program focuses on sustainable change. A Site of Distinction is a health care practice that follows three of the program’s five evidence-based steps to combat childhood obesity. An Advanced Site of Distinction is a health care practice that follows all five steps.

Let’s Go! also recognizes schools, early care and education programs, and out-of-school programs for their role in improving the health of all children. This year, 581 Let’s Go! sites across Maine and Mt. Washington Valley, New Hampshire were recognized. A listing of all recognized sites can be found at sites.letsgo.org.
