MaineCF’s Piscataquis County Committee awards $43,500 in grants

The Piscataquis County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded $43,500 in grants to five nonprofit organizations. An additional grant of $2,000 came from a MaineCF donor-advised fund.

Grant recipients include:

Appalachian Mountain Club, to install dark sky-compliant lighting at the Greenville Consolidated School to improve community safety and well-being;

Friends of Community Fitness, to create a Senior Center and Cardiac Fitness Program;

Moosehead Trails, to create a Moosehead Hiking Trail Ambassador program to provide timely hiking and trail information to trail owners, regional visitors, and hikers;

Pineland Farms, to refine and expand arts, writing, and technology programs for students from the region’s middle and high schools; and

Piscataquis Regional YMCA, to purchase technology for a tutoring program to support youth learning opportunities, build community resilience and combat isolation through multigenerational outreach efforts.

The Piscataquis County Fund is a permanent endowment supporting projects and nonprofits that strengthen communities in the county. Proposals are submitted through MaineCF’s Community Building Grant Program and are reviewed by a committee of local leaders. The next proposal deadline is Feb. 15, 2022.
