Courtesy boat inspections underway at Lower Wilson Pond ramp

The first-ever courtesy boat inspections in the Moosehead region are underway at the Lower Wilson Pond public boat ramp. Friends of Wilson Ponds conducted the first inspections on Memorial Day weekend and will continue through the summer.

The purpose of the inspections is to prevent any invasive aquatic plants from being introduced into Lower Wilson Pond. The good news is no invasive aquatic plants have been found to date. Inspectors report that boat owners have been very cooperative and grateful for the courtesy boat inspection program.

All boaters are encouraged to drain and check their boats, check fishing gear and boat trailers when leaving and entering a body of water and remove any plants or animals that are hitchhiking. This will prevent the spread of invasive species.
