Failure of responsibility

To the Editor;

As a resident and voter in Piscataquis County, I expect elected representatives to operate with  transparency and for the benefit of all the county residents. The recent petition and resolution written and discussed by our county commissioners outside of the public process  is a disturbing development by our local government. The content of these documents aside, their failure to hold open, safe meetings which are accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities who do not feel safe in a closed room with unmasked people, is a failure to recognize their responsibility to all local residents who might wish to participate.

While our local town government has been outstanding in its open policy for virtual meetings and in its practicing of safe interactions since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, county officials are not being considerate of even the most basic civil rights expected in our democracy. Shameful!
