Grocery shopping and delivery service helps people stay home

During this crisis many people are facing difficult decisions including for some how to get adequate food.

There are many fantastic local and regional programs supporting residents in this regard including the local food pantries, Piscataquis Regional Food Center, EAAA Meals on Wheels, the hospitals and the schools.

One additional new program available to people in the region who are self-isolating at home or anyone who is having trouble doing grocery shopping due to concerns about risk, illness or disability is called Community Pulling Together. This is a program funded partly with a small grant from The New England Grassroots Environment Fund COVID-19 response program awarded to The Commons Energy Collaborative. Staffed by volunteers, the program will provide grocery shopping or pharmacy pickups for people, dropping the packages at the door. Volunteers will wear gloves and masks during packing and delivery.

Recipients must make a shopping list, and be able to pay for the purchases either by credit card or check at time of delivery. Pharmacy orders should be made directly with the pharmacy. There is no fee for the shopping or delivery service, But 3% will be added to cover the costs of billing and credit card handling. If you or someone you know would like more information about this program contact The Commons 207-343-3018 or Lesley Fernow 207-992-6822 or by emailing info@CentralHallCommons.org. We will get through this pulling together!
