D-F women’s club news  

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)/MIOSAC Club meeting for Feb. 4 was held at Thayer Parkway. President Suzanne Raymond called the meeting to order with 11 members present. Diane Leighton and Brenda Quiet were hostesses for the evening. Program chairman was Wendy Hutchins.

 

Dot Finnemore led the Club Collect, Pledge of Allegiance and the American Creed.

 

Leighton did roll call and Raymond asked members to respond by telling everyone their favorite tree.  

 

The secretary’s report was read and accepted.

 

Roxy McGlauflin read a thank you from Karagan McGlauflin.

MEETING HOSTESSES — GFWC/Miosac Club hostesses for the Feb. 4 meeting were Diane Leighton and Brenda Quiet.

 

Anne Cress gave the treasurer’s report which was accepted and filed.

 

Minnie McCormick (knee operation) is progressing nicely.

 

Cress distributed Ice-Out tickets which can be sold by all members through March 31. Raffle tickets are six for $5 or $1 each to guess when the ice will be completely out at Sebec in the Narrows. Jerry and Debbie Cole will be judges once again.

 

Vicki Moschella volunteered to do the club publicity as McCormick has done it for a long time, and will remain club historian.

 

An updated volunteer time sheet was handed out.

 

New business:  The first meeting in March will include the formation of a nominating committee (3); a budget committee (2) plus the treasurer; advisory committee of which one member will have served before (3).

 

Items for the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard were donated with some items going to House in the Woods.

 

There was a discussion as to what prizes would be given to the students placing first through fourth in the yearly high school art show.  $10, $15, $25 and $50 was voted upon and accepted.

 

Raymond adjourned the meeting and delicious refreshments were served by hostesses Leighton and Quiet.

 

Program Chairman Hutchins provided materials to make Valentine’s cards for American Legion members and retired veterans.

 

Bingo update, seven members went to the American Legion on Park Street Feb. 13 to play.  Members were McGlauflin, Anne and Bob Cress, Barb Austin, Dot Finnemore, Raymond and Hutchins.  Austin was a “big” winner and Finnemore was a winner as well.

 

The meeting scheduled for Feb. 18 was cancelled because of a snowstorm.
