Hands-on chainsaw safety level 2 workshop Oct. 4

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District has built a successful and popular chainsaw safety offering in our area. Now that we have graduated several level 1 participants and see the demand for a higher-level chainsaw safety offering across the state, we are ready to offer a chainsaw safety level 2 workshop on Friday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Law Farm.

At the chainsaw safety level 2 workshop, participants will be working in the Law Farm woodlot with saws and our presenter will cover several ways to work safely while utilizing this valuable tool. To take this offering, participants will have to have taken an introductory chainsaw safety course through the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District or another organization (MOFGA, Hidden Valley Nature Center, Land Conservancy, etc.).

We will be hosting our returning presenter Sam Heffner, who will provide hands-on instruction, demonstrations and information. Heffner has worked as a forest ranger with the Maine Forest Service for 12 years and has eight years’ experience instructing chainsaw safety workshops to various organizations. Additionally he was a professional logger for several years, and have competed regionally and nationally in the Game of Logging. The district is very excited to welcome Heffner back for his fourth workshop.

Space is limited to 10 participants and we encourage folks who are interested in joining us to register soon, as we expect this course to fill. There is a registration fee required and if you would like to join us, give a call to our office at 564-2321 ext. 3 or email us at info@piscataquisswcd.org.
