‘Tuesdays With Morrie’ coming to Piscataquis County

The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts is presenting a live theatrical version of “Tuesdays With Morrie” in Dover-Foxcroft and Greenville between Aug. 17 and Sept. 8. The funny and heartwarming play was written by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom and is based on the New York Times bestselling book written by Mitch Albom.

“Tuesdays With Morrie” is the autobiographical story of Albom, an accomplished journalist, driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Albom sees Schwartz’s appearance on “Nightline” and learns that his old professor has Lou Gehrig’s Disease. They are reunited and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.

The play was written by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom and is being directed by Angela Bonacasa.

Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive director, is proud to be able to bring the play to the Piscataquis community, “‘Tuesdays With Morrie’ is such a wonderful story. Whether you’ve read the book or seen the movie, the live play will bring it to life in a whole new way. There are some very funny moments and scenes that will touch everyone in the audience. It is also an important play to help us explore how we approach the end of life and how it affects those around us. Because of this, we are partnering with Pine Tree Hospice to host discussions after each performance about end of life issues.”

Myers said the Theatre is also offering special pricing to encourage parents and their adult children to see the show. Tickets are only $10, and with every paid parent ticket a child of any age can attend for free. The play will be performed at the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 2 and 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24 at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. Then the show will move to Greenville High School for two performances on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 8 at 2 p.m.
